boober services

We offer different levels of service depending on the circumstances.  All services are in-person at your home or hospital with a vetted and experienced Lactation Professional.

what about price?

Because all Lactation Professionals set their own rates you can expect some variation in pricing, which is why we don't display pricing on the website. Even for the same general services, the price can vary based on the Lactation Professional that is providing your care. During the intake process we will discuss the available options and your budget to find the right provider for you. Your Lactation Professional will then charge you directly when they provide service.

Our goal is to help all parents in need of breastfeeding support so please contact us even if pricing is a concern and we will try to match you to a provider or other appropriate resources.

sos!

You’re in pain, your nipples are cracked, you’re worried your baby isn’t getting enough milk, your doctor said you need to supplement with formula, you’re feeling overwhelmed with nursing or pumping—any or all of the above. Maybe you’re thinking about giving up? If you’re having significant complications with breastfeeding (pain, poor weight gain in baby, injury to your nipples or breast, low milk supply, plugged ducts or mastitis, or other complications), a Level 2 Lactation Professional, with the highest level of certification (IBCLC, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant), can help.

SOS visits include a thorough clinical intake of mother and baby; use of a sensitive scale to assess milk transfer; assessment of baby’s mouth, tongue, and suck; explanation and practice of the mechanics of breastfeeding and milk production; and a clear action plan to support your family’s lactation goals. After the visit, you’ll receive a written care plan, a pediatrician report, and follow-up communication as needed for a set period of time.

Simone Toomer comes with a passion to serve each family, believing that each should have access to support and resources in a place where many in NYC are distant from their families and dear friends. After the positive natural birth of her daughter, with her doula and partner by her side, Simone wanted to channel her energy in a new direction, by becoming a certified birth and postpartum doula, childbirth educator and doula educator/mentor for her certifying organization Doula Trainings International. She is also a certified lactation counselor and is involved in many community parenting support groups such as La Leche League as a leader and Mocha Moms, Brooklyn chapter. This passion fueled Simone to start her own doula mentorship collective Wombs and Wisdom, geared towards community support and guidance, with each doula delivering full circle care to clients for birth and postpartum.

After her 2nd was born at home with a supportive birth team, Simone further realized how important a trusted, skilled care provider and support team was and made a difference. Simone struggled with breastfeeding for the first 2 weeks, which was a drastically different experience from with her first. Despite feeling discouraged at times, she called on her community for support and advice. Simone realized before how birth preferences can be different, however, through her own experience realized how each journey can be different too , as is each family. Simone respects and honors this and brings forth education and non-judgmental care to the families which she serves.

Simone is CPR and First Aid certified and is always attending workshops and conferences to strengthen her knowledge, further her education and support her families to the best of her ability. Simone has worked with families in different scopes from being an employee of the Women, Infant and Children Program (WIC) as a breastfeeding peer counselor, where their goal is to increase nutritional and breastfeeding awareness in communities, to working with families of the foster care system, shelters, of the LGBTQ community, with special needs, premature births and parents of multiples. Simone has a BA in psychology, is a birth doula with the Brooklyn Department of Health By My Side Doula Support Program and looks to continue her education to further nurture families and bridge the gap between her community work and passion for social justice and advocacy. Simone is a Brooklyn based mom and when not supporting families, she’s building memories with her own.

I am a DONA (Doulas of North America) trained and certified postpartum doula (since 2006), a Certified Lactation Counselor (since 2010) and am also certified in infant CPR. The New York Times described me as “a modern Mary Poppins: a combination friend, teacher and spirit guide…” I teach Birth Day Presence’s Breastfeeding & Newborn Care Class and I enjoy working with nursing parents, demonstrating infant massage and “baby wearing,” and supporting parents who are struggling with postpartum mood disorders, including postpartum depression and anxiety. I regularly pursue continuing education opportunities and am always deepening my knowledge about newborn care, lactation support and postpartum parents. I’ve been lucky to work with a diverse range of families, including single, adoptive, and LGBTQ+ parents. I’m a former documentary maker and my films about body image and family issues have been broadcast on PBS, HBO and beyond; my short radio pieces can be heard on This American Life; and an autobiographical essay of mine was included in the anthology Out of the Ordinary: Growing Up with Gay, Lesbian and Transgender Parents. I left my documentary career and became a postpartum doula after seeing a dear friend go through a severe postpartum depression. That experience convinced me that more support is essential for all parents– whether it’s their first baby or not. I am the proud mother of a son born in July 2007 and I live with my family in Kensington/Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn.
